On today's broadcast, the ousted former president Yoon Seok-yeol is getting ready to move out of the presidential residence one day after the constitutional court removed him from office. Acting president Han Deok-soo is expected to announce the date for the next presidential election on Tuesday. And, the Seoul Metropolitan Government reviews its response measures as religious and civic groups are staging rallies this weekend following the expulsion of former president Yoon Seok-yeol. This is KBS World Radio News. The presidential Phoenix flag was taken down at the presidential office in Yongsan, Seoul at around 11:40 a.m. Friday. And now, former President Yoon Seok-yul and First Lady Kim Kwan-hee are preparing to move out of the official presidential residence in Hannam-dong a day after the Constitutional Court removed him from office. Sources have suggested that preparations for their move and security arrangements at their private home will take some time.

While no specific date has been set for their departure, the former presidential couple may choose not to return to their privately owned high-rise apartment located in Seoul's affluent Seocho-dong neighborhood. The two stayed there during the first six months of Yoon's presidency, but the apartment complex poses security challenges for the secret service, which Yoon is entitled to for the next 10 years. At the time, the presidential security service had to designate the entire apartment complex as a special security zone, possibly causing inconvenience to other residents.

Article 84 of the Constitution gives a sitting president the right to immunity from prosecution except in cases of insurrection or treason. Former President Yoon Seok-yul automatically lost that immunity on Friday after the Constitutional Court upheld a parliament-passed impeachment motion against him over the December 3rd martial law declaration. While Yoon is set to attend the first formal hearing as the accused on April 14th in a criminal trial on charges of leading the insurrection through martial law, prosecutors investigating the decree are expected to additionally indict him over power abuse.

Although Yoon has strongly denied any attempts to subvert the Constitution or to spark a riot during martial law, if the court were to convict him of leading an insurrection, the former president could face the death penalty or life imprisonment. The prosecution's probe is also expected to pick up speed regarding Yoon and former First Lady Kim Geon-hee's alleged meddling in the ruling People Power Party's candidate nomination ahead of the 2022 by-elections and 2024 general elections. The Corruption Investigation Office for high-ranking officials for its part is looking into Yoon's alleged exercise of undue influence over a probe into the death of a Marine during a heavy rain search operation in 2023.
