There are many themes that could be developed more here; let me make a few quick points for now:

Nick -- I certainly would not suggest that our policy should be to embrace Millennial attitudes
unreflectively. I would be the last person to advocate for socialism. But when 70% of Millennials say they are pro-socialist, we need to do better than simply dismiss them by saying that they are stupid or entitled or brainwashed; we should try and understand why. And, from the perspective of a broken generational compact, there seems to be a pretty straightforward answer to me, namely, that when one has too much student debt or if housing is too unaffordable, then one will have negative capital for a long time and/or find it very hard to start accumulating capital in the form of real estate; and if one has no stake in the capitalist system, then one may well turn against it.

하지만 밀레니얼의 70%가 자신들을 사회주의 성향이라고 말한다면, 그들을 멍청하다거나 권리의식이 강하다거나 세뇌되었다고 단순히 치부하는 것만으로는 부족합니다. 우리는 그 이유를 이해하려고 노력해야 합니다.  그리고 깨진 세대 간 계약이라는 관점에서 보면, 내게는 꽤 명확한 답이 있습니다. 즉, 학생 대출이 너무 많거나 주거 비용이 지나치게 비싸면, 사람들은 오랫동안 마이너스 자산 상태에 놓이게 되거나 부동산의 형태로 자본을 축적하기 매우 어려워집니다. 그리고 만약 어떤 사람이 자본주의 시스템에 자신의 몫을 전혀 갖지 못한다면, 결국 그 시스템을 거스르게 될 수도 있습니다
